“Our June 27th Quail Forever Work Project is on BLM lands near Lake Morena, CA. This guzzler, #238, was missing for years, and was damaged by a road grader. A resident out there alerted us and we are going to accomplish repairs to it. We will meet at 7:30 AM at the Buckman Springs Rest Stop on I-8 at Exit 51, east of Pine Valley, CA.. We will meet a representative of SDG&E there who will open a gate and get us access to the worksite. If time permits, we will make minor repairs to another guzzler in the area on the way home. Please RSVP if you plan to attend this work project.”  D.R.

From the California Department of Fish & Wildlife web page May 14, 2015

https://cdfgnews.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/nonlead-ammunition-requirement-approaches/

“Nonlead Ammunition Requirement Approaches”

“Starting July 1, 2015, nonlead ammunition will be required when hunting on all California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) lands and for all Nelson bighorn sheep hunts anywhere in the state.”

“Further phase-out of lead ammunition for hunting in California will occur on July 1, 2016, when hunters must use nonlead ammunition when hunting with shotguns for upland game birds (except for dove, quail and snipe), small game mammals, fur-bearing mammals, and nongame birds except for when hunting at licensed game bird clubs. Nonlead ammunition will also be required when taking wildlife for depredation purposes anywhere in the state.  Starting on July 1, 2019 hunters must use nonlead ammunition when taking any animal anywhere in the state for any purpose.”

Working on the Cañada de San Vicente Wildlife Reserve, near Ramona, CA that is under the control of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with California State Parks. Need more information? Want to help out? Check or Facebook page;  Quail Forever San Diego  or

Our May 30, 2015 work Project is a bit of change-of-pace for Quail Forever, San Diego Chapter. We will be working on the Cañada de San Vicente Wildlife Reserve, near Ramona, CA. This land, formerly the Mirasol Ranch, is under the control of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, in partnership with California State Parks, and is closed to the general public while a land management plan (LMP) is being formulated. We, the hunting community, are hopeful that hunting will be included in the proposed Plan. We have been invited in, and have committed to repairing one of several guzzlers that are on the property. We would like to get a good turnout for this Project. This area is unique and will provide participants with an opportunity to get a rare close up look at the area.
Dogs are OK but must be leashed at all times. Also, no unaccompanied sightseeing will be permitted. Bring sun protection, enough water to drink and something for lunch. Please RSVP if you plan to attend this work project.
We will meet at a locked gate a short distance down Chuck Wagon Road at 32⁰ 59.612’ N, 116⁰ 51.039’ W. We will be escorted to the work site by Jason Price, the DF&W Reserve Manager. Chuck Wagon Road is located off of San Vincente Road and is .2 miles West of the junction of San Vincente Road and Wildcat Canyon/Barona Road. Thomas Bros. 1172 J5   (D.R.)

March guzzler repair/restoration project is the McCain Valley site on Saturday, March 14th, meeting time is 7:00 AM @ BLM Road MV 050 “where the paved road ends”.

If you arrive late and no one is present, proceed on McCain Valley Road/ BLM Road MV 050, about .4 miles to the signed Sacatone Road/BLM Road MV 052.

Bring ear plugs and eye protection if you have them. Wear old jeans, shoes and clothes as you may get grout, mortar and Theroseal on them. Bring water, lunch, sun protection and a hat. We will provide all of the equipment needed and have a couple of extra face shields. If you have past experience working concrete and have your own trowels, tools, etc., by all means bring them. There is no need to bring a lot of excess water on this Project as there is no convenient place to dump the excess. Dave and I will bring all the water that we will need.
