Our San Diego Chapter’s Mission Statement

The mission of the Quail Forever San Diego Chapter is to preserve and improve the habitat of quail there by maintaining and hopefully increasing healthy quail populations, thereby enhancing hunting opportunities and also benefit all wildlife.

We plan to fulfill this goal by repairing and maintaining  the water sites (Guzzlers) that were previously built decades prior by conservation groups including; CCC, WPA, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and California Department of Fish and Game for the same purpose.

The “Guzzlers” as water sources appears to have been a beneficial element for many animal species survival over the decades since their instillations.  The disrepair of many of the “Guzzlers” makes the mission of the Quail Forever San Diego Chapter so imperative.

We also endeavor to improve the surrounding habitat by the removal of trash, encouraging sources of food and building natural (brush piles) shelter for all wildlife. We also monitor quail populations by means of call routes and brood counts to assist the Department of Fish and Wildlife in monitoring and maintaining healthy populations of quail.

Quail Forever Mission & Model

National Conservation Leadership with Local Wildlife Habitat Results

Quail Forever: The Habitat Organization

Quail Forever is dedicated to the conservation of quail, pheasants and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs.

A Unique Model

At the heart of Quail Forever is the unique grassroots system of fundraising and project development that allows members to see the direct result of their contributions. Quail Forever, Pheasants Forever’s sister organization, empower county and local chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100 percent of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent – the only national conservation organization that operates through this truly grassroots structure. As a result, chapter volunteers are able to see the fruits of their efforts locally, while belonging to a larger national organization with a voice on federal and state conservation policy.

Quail Forever

Pheasants Forever launched Quail Forever in August of 2005 to address the continuing loss of habitat suitable for quail and the subsequent quail population decline. Bobwhite population losses over the last 25 years range from 60 to 90 percent across the country. The reason for the quail population plunge is simple – massive losses of habitat suitable for quail. There are five major factors leading to the losses of quail habitat; intensified farming and forestry practices, succession of grassland ecosystems to forests, overwhelming presence of exotic grasses like fescue that choke out wildlife, and urban sprawl.

A Diverse Membership

Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever members are a diversified group of hunters, non-hunters, farmers, ranchers, landowners, conservation enthusiasts and wildlife officials. Quail Forever is for those who want to make a difference for wildlife by creating habitat, restoring wetlands and protecting prairies. Join Quail Forever Today!

Our Work

  • Wildlife Habitat Projects – The system of empowering local chapters and volunteers to make the best decisions for wildlife in their local area has resulted in the average annual completion of over 20,000 projects. Since their inception, Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever’s wildlife habitat projects have benefited more than 8.5 million acres across the continent while also participating in over 1,300 different land acquisitions totaling over 169,000 acres. Those land acquisition projects have been completed in conjunction with local, state and federal natural resource agencies, and all of those projects are today open to public hunting.
  • Habitat Conservation Advocacy – Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever’s mission is directly tied to a strong framework of federal conservation programs. Authority for critical conservation programs, such as the Conservation and Wetlands Reserve Program, is granted by the U.S. Congress in the Federal Farm Bill’s Conservation Title. In total, federal farm conservation programs allow us to manage nearly 50 million acres for wildlife habitat.
  • Habitat Conservation Education – Quail Forever and Pheasants Forever have developed programs and materials that promote education and public awareness, including its Ringnecks and Whistlers youth programs and the FOREVER Shooting Sports Program.
  • Habitat Forever – Habitat Forever, LLC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pheasants Forever, Inc. Habitat Forever specialists are available for hire to complete habitat projects or maintain existing habitat in many areas of the country. Our habitat teams are equipped with tractors, trailers, seed drills, tree planters, watering and fire management equipment, mowers and more. Each team is run by an experienced habitat specialist that can help you plan your project, determine if you qualify for federal or state cost share programs, plant and manage it in order to maximize wildlife potential.
  • Forever Land Trust – The Forever Land Trust functions as the property management wing of PF, giving PF the ability to accept and permanently protect donations of property and conservation easements.
